Canvas / Create a nickname for a course

Objective

  • To provide a rationale for applying a nickname to an auto-generated course name
  • To provide a link to Canvas Guide instructions on creating a nickname for a course when: 
    • You want to change the name of your Canvas course

Environment

Cause

  • Canvas course names are generated automatically based on the sections in the course. Canvas will override any changes made to auto-generated course names

Resolution

  • If the course is a student-enrolled course that is set up through Banner, you cannot change the Canvas course name
