Canvas / Restore deleted course content

Objective

  • To provide instruction on restoring deleted course content when:
    • You accidentally deleted content in a Canvas course
    • You need to restore a deleted Canvas assignment
    • You need to restore a deleted score in Gradebook
    • You no longer have content for a course, and the grades are not showing
    • You need to locate lost content for a Canvas course

Environment

Resolution

  1. Open the course you want to attempt to restore lost of deleted data
  2. Navigate to the URL and type /undelete at the end of the course number
    • e.g., https://miamioh.instructure.com/courses/52249/undelete
  3. Press Enter to open this page
  4. Search for the content name
  5. Select Restore
  6. Return to the course
  7. Search for the content to verify it was restored
  8. If the content was an assignment, open Assignments
  9. Find the restored assignment
  10. Select the Publish icon to publish the assignment
    • If the grades are missing, open Grades
    • In the drop-down on the right, open Grading History
    • Look for the grading updates to manually restore grades
    • Alternatively, open Test Canvas to check if the grades are still available - please note that updates to the Test environment of Canvas are completed weekly
